Indian Musician Arijit Singh Lands Spotify’s 3rd Spot for Most Followed Music Artist
Arijit Singh an Indian musician who rose to prominence in his country as a music composer and as a playback singer, is currently the third most followed artist on Spotify. The music streaming channel lists Arijit Singh after Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande but ahead of other popular music icons like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Emiem, just to mention a few. Yet in fairness to these famous artists, a likely reason why Arijit Singh has been commanding a massive following on Spotify is because he has recorded over 400 songs in different Indian languages. He has millions of fans in India alone, with each of his songs recorded in several Indian dialects.
As a matter of fact, his fans also follow him in live shows in the hopes of getting to see him in person. In a live concert held last May, 2023, the singer suffered injury in his right hand after an over-enthusiastic fan applied too much force in pulling Arjit’s hand.
Success as a Playback Singer
As a playback singer, Arijit Singh has also recorded songs that actors lip synched as movie tracks. In India, actors who are not confident with their singing skills to avoid instances of singing out of tune, opt to lip sync instead. They prefer to lip sync the voice of playback singers who recorded the track separately.
Multi-Awarded Music Artist
Arijit’s biggest hit songs today are his latest movie playback tracks Tum Kya Mile and What Jhumka from the movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. This Indian artist has garnered numerous accolades, seven from the Filmfare Awards and a recognition from the prestigious National Film Award.
His breakthrough as a musician came in 2014, when he became the lead vocalist of Aashiqui 2 to which his rendition of the movie track “Tum Hi Ho” won him numerous awards and several Filmfare Awards and nominations for being the Best Male Playback Singer.
